Ordiorne Point State Park (Fort Dearborn)

Ordiorne State Park is located in Rye New Hampshire. Its a great place to bring kids for fun and education as well as a great picnic spot. It is about 50% surrounded by a rocky coastline. This is a large NH seacoast State Park with two entrances and parking areas. The West entrance is mostly used for the walking trails, boat ramp, kayak launch, and saltwater fishing. This is a free entrance area at the time of this article. The East entrance is mostly used for self-guided historical tours of Fort Dearborn, picnics, school field trips and the Seabrook Education and Cultural Center. There is a small fee for entering this area. Be sure to park in the appropriate area for your activities as the West entrance with the boat ramp can become quickly filled up on nice weather days which can limit access for boaters.

The Seabrook Education and Cultural Center exhibits focus on life in the 1940’s and 1950’s. They focus on farming, people and community life. Some of the exhibits include a large scale model of Seabrook Village in the 1950’s and cultural artifacts. The museum also focuses on the history of the NH Seacoast area which revolves around the Japanese Americans, the largest ethnic group in the area during World War 2.

Side note: Ordiorne State Park is often misspelled and mispronounced “Ordion”, Ordionne, and other variations.
