Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse: Aka Portsmouth Lighthouse, Portsmouth Light
The Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse is located on a military installation at Fort Constitution in New Castle, NH and overlooks the mouth of the Piscataqua River. The Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse is a very traditional looking New England Lighthouse.
The Portsmouth Lighthouse’s location along the rocky shoreline of the Portsmouth Harbor in New Castle New Hampshire makes is very photogenic.Great photos can be taken from the Portsmouth Lighthouse grounds, Great Island Common, and of coarse from the harbor.
The lighthouse is one of a few lighthouses that remain in the area along the Portsmouth Harbor which separates the states of New Hampshire and Maine.
The Portsmouth Lighthouse offers tours only on Sunday afternoons that run through the Summer months (normally Memorial Day Weekend through Columbus Day Weekend). Other openings may occur during public events. Tours are first come, first serve to climb the 44 steps to the top of the Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse. The lighthouse can be accessed at the Fort Constitution Historic Site in New Castle NH. Check their website for instructions, fees, and other important open-house information.
The Portsmouth Lighthouse is said to be one of New Hampshire’s haunted locations.
