NHMS track facts and little things you may not have known about NHMS. The track is nicknamed the “Magic Mile” for its length of just over 1 mile. NHMS track is actually 1.058 Miles.
NHMS track banking on the straightaways is 1 degrees. Banking in the corners varies from 2 degrees to 7 degrees. The banking increases on the outside lanes. Most NASCAR drivers consider NHMS to be relatively flat banking compared to other tracks in the NASCAR circuit.
NHMS front stretch and back stretch are both 1,500 feet in length.
The track at NHMS is 65 feet wide on the straightaways and corners. Pit road is almost as wide as the track itself at 60 feet wide.
There are two tunnels under turn two at NHMS for tractor trailer access, one for inbound and one for outbound tractor trailers. this allows race teams to park in the infield of NHMS. The tunnels are 130 feet long and 20 feet in diameter.
The track’s official opening was on June 5, 1990, but not as New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The track was then owned by Bob Bahre and opened under the name New Hampshire International Speedway, or NHIS.
