Maple Syrup in NH

The New Hampshire Maple Producers Association celebrates 75 years of dedication to the promotion of New Hampshire’s sugarhouses as well as the maple sugar produced. Hosted by the New Hampshire Maple Producers Association, the annual Maple Sugaring Month runs March 9 through March 31 spanning over four weekends. During this time, sugar makers open their doors to the public to demonstrate centuries of producing maple syrup. At this event, people are able to meet the maple producers of New Hampshire, discover how the whole operation works, enjoy free samples of fresh syrup, maple candies, confections, coffee, and doughnuts. Some maple sugarhouse locations will offer pancake breakfasts, petting farms, and even horse-drawn rides. The 24th annual NH maple weekend will be held March 23-24 in 2019.

The first maple sugarhouse, 5 Samplings, is located in Wilmot and began making syrup in the spring of 2015. Then there is the Abbot Farm sugarhouse located in Moultonborough and has been passed down through their family for 5 generations. There is also the Atkins Family sugarhouse located in Washington, Babel’s Sugar Shack located in Mason, Backyard Sugaring located in Orford, Bald Mountain Sugarbush located in Campton, Batchelder’s sugarhouse located in Langdon, Beaver Brook Maple located in Bow, Beaver Meadowbrook Farm sugarhouse located in Warner, Beepa and Lulu’s Sugar Shack located in Peterborough, Ben’s Sugar Shack located in Temple, Beyond the Horizon Farm located in Bennington, Black Mountain Sugarhouse located in Jackson, and many more that can be found on their website.

The New Hampshire Maple Producers Association sponsors the annual Walter A. Felker Memorial Award Program, also known as the Felker award. This program and prize encourages interest in the youth located in New Hampshire about the maple sugaring tradition. This is open to residents, age 16 or younger, and have to create a project focused on any aspect of maple sugaring in NH. This allows the youth to think outside the box, this includes science projects, art projects, historical projects, or any other type of project. Participation requirements are located on their website. The winner is usually announced at the annual summer meeting of the New Hampshire Maple Producers Association. Whoever wins first place is awarded with $300, second place is awarded with $150, and third place is awarded with $50. The submissions forms for this is located on their website.
