Sentinel Pine Covered Bridge Lincoln NH

Sentinel Pine Covered Bridge is located in Lincoln, New Hampshire within the Flume Gorge, over The Pool at The Flume in Lincoln, NH.

Sentinel Pine Bridge was built in 1939 for walking tourists traffic only at the Flume.

Sentinel Pine Covered Bridge is listed in the World Guide of Covered Bridges (WGCB), number 29-05-01 and is New Hampshire covered bridge #38

The Sentinel Pine Bridge got it’s name from the fact it was built on top of a giant Pine tree that was approximately a century old. The old Pine was 5 feet wide at it’s base and stood 90′ tall. The tree fell during a hurricane in 1938 near the site where the bridge is located today. The tree was cut to 60′ in length and moved to the bridge site where it was hoisted over the deep gorge of the Flume. Workers took other trees that had also fallen and made the footbridge on top of the giant pine as well as finished the walls and the roof of the covered bridge with local trees. Looking closely at the construction of the Sentinel Covered bridge and you will see the bridge was built using pegs to hold the wood planks and beams in place.

When visiting The Flume in Lincoln, NH, be sure to walk over the bridge and up the trail. Looking back at the bridge you can clearly see the giant pine tree that still holds up the Sentinel Covered Bridge today.
