Slate Covered Bridge is located on Westport Village Rd and crosses the Ashuelot River in Swanzey New Hampshire.
Slate Bridge was built in 1862 and is listed in the World Guide of Covered Bridges (WGCB), number 29-03-06, and is New Hampshire covered bridge #4.
Slate Covered Bridge was named after the Slate family who owned a farm near the site of the bridge in the mid 1800’s. The Slate Covered Bridge replaced an earlier bridge that collapsed while a small herd of Oxen where crossing the bridge. The owner and the Oxen were all unharmed in the accident.
The Slate Covered Bridge was destroyed by a fire that occurred on March 8, 1993. The Slate Covered bridge was replaced in 2001.
