Stark Covered Bridge is located on Northside Rd in Stark Village, Stark NH, the Stark covered bridge crosses the Ammonoosuc River.
Stark Bridge was constructed in 1862 and is listed in the World Guide of Covered Bridges (WGCB), number 29-04-05, and New Hampshire covered bridge #37.
In the late 1800’s, the Stark covered bridge was lifted from it’s site and carried down the river by a flood. Determined men dragged the bridge back to the site with Oxen and placed the bridge back where it belonged.
In the 50’s, the townspeople voted to replace the aging Stark Covered Bridge with a new steel structure. Their decision was overturned due to the amount of people who loved the covered bridge and complained to the town and the state of New Hampshire that the historic bridge should not be removed. As a result, the Stark Covered Bridge was saved and repaired. It has been maintained by the state ever since.
The Stark Covered Bridge is located next to a small church, the Stark Union Church which was built in 1853. The Stark Covered Bridge is one of the most picturesque covered bridges in NH. Every year the Stark Covered Bridge is adorned with Christmas lights, adding to it photogenic quality.
