Trout Fishing and Moose Watching Millsfield Pond in Errol, NH

Fishing at Millsfield Pond in Errol, NH: As rainy weather was headed our way, we decided to continue with our trip. This trip was originally scheduled for a Moose watch only, but seeing the weather didn’t look like it was going to cooperate, we brought our fishing gear in hopes of making the best of bad weather.

On our first full day in Errol, we headed downtown to L.L. Cote Sports Center, a great store on Main St. in Errol that offers just about everything (ATV rentals, ATV sales, fishing gear, hunting equipment, boats, food, convenience store, gas, clothing, just about everything you could possibly need. L.L. Cote is a great place to visit. They have many taxidermied animals on display there, among them is a White Moose which is very interesting to see. Locals go there for food. Visitors to Errol, NH go there for hunting, fishing and camping supplies. I was tempted to buy a new ATV while I was at LL Cote’s, but was able to resist the temptation (until next time).

As the weekend progressed, we did find a few breaks in the weather suitable for heading outdoors to go swimming and for a ride in the boat to find the best trout fishing spots on Millsfield Pond. The person who brought us fishing there knew all the good spots, one thing I did notice is that all of the good fishing was all on the North side of the pond. I assumed it was because all the camps there are on the South side of Millsfield Pond and the fish tend to avoid the noise and commotion of this more populated area. Millsfield Pond in Errol, NH is stocked with Brook Trout. To my knowledge, no other type of fish lives in the Millsfield Pond. I have been fishing there a few times and have never seen any other type of fish caught there.

One of the best trout fishing spots at Millsfield Pond is on the north east side. There is a spring there that comes out of a white PVC pipe. The trout tend to hang out close to that spring. Gold spinners seem to work best. This area is no secret to the residents on Millsfield Pond, so you may have to wait your turn to get your chance at catching your limit on Brook Trout there.

Besides the fishing, we were also able to catch a glimpse of a few deer, one mother deer with her young newborn and others in our group saw a Moose with her young as well. Most of the sightings were seen around the North side of Millsfield Pond in Errol.

As we left on Sunday and began our journey back home, we did see a huge black bull Moose standing on the side of Rt. 16 in Errol. Further down Rt. 16, we also came across a deer standing in the river along Rt. 16. The area has a lot of wildlife.

Our rainy weekend turned out to be quite adventurous after all!
