Hermit Falls in Chatham New Hampshire offers a 30′ total drop but the waterfall is very dependent on the weather. The best time to see Hermit Falls is after a rainy period, or late spring when the ice melt on top of the mountains is contributing to the flow of the waterfall.
The hike to Hermit Falls is a 1.3 mile hike each way. The best place to park is at the nearby Basin Campground which is just off Rt. 113 on the NH/Maine border on Basin Rd.
The hike to Hermit Falls should take about 45 minutes each way. The hike is easy to moderate, nothing too extreme. Hermit Falls isn’t the most dramatic waterfall in New Hampshire but if you’re in the area or camping at Basin Campground it can give you something fun to do to pass the time.
