Turkey Jim’s Covered bridge is located at Branch Brook Campground on Rt. 49 (Campton Village Rd) in Campton NH and crosses Branch Brook.
Turkey Jim’s Covered Bridge was built in 1958 and is listed in the World Guide of Covered Bridges (WGCB), number 29-05-07, and is New Hampshire covered bridge #42.
Turkey’s Jim’s Covered Bridge got it’s name from the previous property owner, Jim Cummings who owned a turkey farm there called Turkey Jim’s Turkey Farm.
The original bridge at this location was built in 1883 (some sources say 1874) but had to be replaced in 1958 as it was structurally unsafe. Turkey Jim’s covered bridge was swept away by flood waters in 1964. A team of people retrieved the bridge and placed it back on it’s abutments. On Sunday August 28, 2011, a powerful tropical storm “Irene” made its way up the Eastern coast and into NH causing many rivers to flood. Turkey Jim’s Covered Bridge was once again swept away by the Pemigewasset River. Turkey Jim’s Covered Bridge slammed into another bridge downstream, cutting off the main access route to Branch Brook Campground. The bridge was once again restored and placed back on its abutments.
