11 Fun Things to do in New Hampshire

Looking for something to do in New Hampshire? Below is a list of 11 things to do with brief descriptions for each one. The list is divided by NH town or city.

Things to do in Portsmouth NH

The Albacore Museum

The Albacore Museum is located right in Portsmouth NH. Visit the USS Albacore which is a one-of-a-kind submarine. On the grounds there is also the Submarine Memorial Garden. Inside the garden lies the sculpture of a dolphin.

During the summer, the hours for the Albacore Museum are 9:30am-5:30pm every day from Memorial Day to Columbus Day. Winter hours are 9:30am-4:00pm Thursday through Monday.

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 7-17, children under 7 are free, $4 for military personnel and $10 for a family consisting of 2 adults and 1 or 2 children under the age of 18.

The Children’s Museum of NH

The Children’s Museum of NH is located in nearby Dover NH.  The Children's Museum is a lot of fun, even for adults. They have a lot of great hands-on exhibits. Some of my favorite exhibits include Dino Detective which is where you get to play the role of Paleontologist for a while. First you get to dig for fossils in the sand and then you can examine them. First Impressions is another fun exhibit. You can make impressions of your face and hands on the five foot pin screen.

Summer hours run until Labor Day.  Hours in the summer are Monday through Saturday from 10am-5pm and Sunday from noon-5pm. Winter hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday from noon-5pm.  They are closed on Monday during the winter.

Water Country

Water Country is located in Portsmouth NH as well.  This is one of my favorite places to go on a hot summer day. Water Country has 14 rides and slides.  My two favorites are Dragon’s Den and Tahiti Tree House. Dragon’s Den takes you through darkness and then you plunge into the abyss of the dragon this is misting with water. Tahiti Tree House is a blast. There is a large bucket atop the tree house. When the bucket drops, you get totally soaked with water.

Water Country is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.  Right now online you can buy a season pass for the 2010 season for only $59.99.

Things to do in Jefferson NH

Fort Jefferson Fun Park

Fort Jefferson Fun Park (formally Six Gun City) is a fun place for all ages. There is so much to do at Six Gun City. Do you enjoy Laser Tag? They have a state-of-the-art Laser tag arena. Are you a go-kart fan? Fort Jefferson Fun Park has a great racetrack with cars that are either one or two-seaters. Are water slides more your thing? They have the Tomahawk Run Waterslide, log boats and bumper boats.

Fort Jefferson Fun Park is open Memorial Day through Labor Day. Rates are $21.95 for ages 4 and up, $6.95 for seniors and children under 3 are free.

Fort Jefferson Fun Park is located on Rt. 2 in Jefferson, NH:

Jefferson, NH 03583
(603) 586-4592

GPS Coordinates Location: N44° 23.128' | W 071° 25.374'

Santa’s Village

Santa’s Village is a special place for me. I went there when I was a kid with my parents, I took my kids there when they were younger and now I am taking my grandkids to Santa's Village. The antique cars were my kids’ favorite ride. The cars run on a track and you steer the car and control the gas pedal. The Little Drummer Boy is a drum version of the Tea Cup ride. You control the steering with a whole in the middle and this makes the drum you are riding on go around. The Skyway Sleigh is my favorite ride.  You ride on a sleigh monorail around the park.

Santa’s Village is open July and August and select days on the other months. Tickets are $24 for ages 4 and up, $22 for seniors and children under three are free.

Things to do in Salem NH

Canobie Lake Park

Canobie Lake Park is another childhood favorite of mine. They have new attraction that they add on almost every year. Wipeout is a ride that tilts and goes around pretty fast.  They also have a great collection of games to play where you can win prizes.

Canobie Lake is open July and August from 11am-10pm and they are open select days from May, June and September. Prices are $30 for general admission, $21 for seniors and children under 48 inches tall, $20 for everyone after 5pm and ages three and under is free.

America’s Stonehenge

America’s Stonehenge is a great place to visit for the whole family.  They are open year round, seven days a week from 9am-5pm.  Admission is $9.50 for adults, $8.50 for seniors, $6.50 for ages 5-12 and under 5 is free.

America’s Stonehenge is a ½ mile trail of beautiful scenery. America’s Stonehenge is an “accurate, astronomically aligned calendar.  It can be used to determine specific solar and lunar events of the year."

Things to do at Hampton Beach NH

Hampton Beach Casino

Hampton Beach Casino is a great place to see some of the hottest concerts around the state. Stars such as Mitchell Musso from Hannah Montana, Eddie Money and Social Distortion are some of the concerts you will see at the Hampton Beach Casino.

Then you have Hampton Beach itself which is an attraction all on its own. They have a beautiful beach and boardwalk with arcades and plenty of places to eat and drink.

Things to do in Conway NH

The Mount Washington Valley Theatre Company

The Mount Washington Valley Theatre Company is one of the best places to see Broadway-style musicals. Actors and Actresses from across the county perform hit musicals such as High School Musical, Blood Brothers and Hello, Dolly!

Mount Washington Valley Moose Bus Tours

Mount Washington Valley Moose Bus Tours is a 3 hour bus ride through Crawford Notch State Park.  They have a 94% success rate in moose sightings.  The tours run from May through October.  Rates are $25 for adults and $20 for children under the age of 18.

Banana Village

Banana Village is open year round.  The arcade has over 30 arcade games for every age and sill level.  They also have 18 holes of mini golf complete with tiki huts and waterfalls.  The water slide is 60 feet above the ground and is a double water slide with plenty of twists.

Banana Village is open in the summer from 10am-10pm.  Off peak hours are anytime during the year except July and August from noon-6pm.  Prices are $7.50 for the mini golf for adults, $6.50 for the mini golf course for ages 12 and under, $2 for the mini golf course for children under 5, $3.50 for a 2nd game of golf, $12 for one hour on the waterslide, $29 for a day pass which includes unlimited waterslides and mini golf and $89 for a summer pass.

And there you have it, some great vacation destinations in the state of NH.  So the next time you want to take a vacation with the family, you don’t have to travel very far to enjoy some awesome vacation spots.
