  • When does the Kancamagus Highway open after winter?

We are going to visit NH state for a week the second half of April and we are considering some diferent options to decide what to see and visit. Kancamagus Highway and surroundings could really be a good choice, but we are wondering if it is open by that time (second half of April).
Or on the contrary, maybe are there other better NH places to see?
Our preferences are basically oriented to landscapes, state/national parks, nature in general. Also historic sites.
    Thank you

Hi, The Kancamagus Highway remains open year-round, depending on the weather conditions on the Kancamagus. So you will want to keep an eye on the weather conditions there just prior to your planned trip. You can also check back here as we post Kancamagus closures as we know of them.

The 2nd half of April there usually isn't much going on in New Hampshire, the maple syrup season is over, but you will probably find some decent flowing waterfalls in NH.

Late April tends to be mud season, but if the weather is cold enough when you come you might find some decent winter hikes as well, maybe a combination of winter hikes and waterfalls. You might be able to better plan your trip when the time gets closer. If we have a cold April the mud season will hold off a bit, but normally most central and southern NH is in the mud season at that time, so staying in northern NH might be your best bet.

If you plan on a few hours drive away from Southern NH you can make it to Northern NH. There is plenty of things to do, maybe some spring skiing, waterfall hikes, and Moose Alley in Pittsburg NH.
