  • Shed Hunting Help

Hi, I am new to this forum.

I am looking for information on Shed Hunting. I am just starting to get into it and I am finding it a lot of fun but I haven't found any sheds yet.

I really would lke to find Moose antlers but Deer antlers are great also.

Anyone have any information that might help me get started?

    Thank you for any assistance!

    Re: Shed Hunting Help

Shed hunting, now there is something I know very little about as well.

I do know the further north you go, the better your chances are of finding moose sheds, but i dont think thats any secret. I have always thought (and I don't know if its true or not) but look for trees that have been beat up by the moose antlers (or deer antlers), missing bark, scratched bark, etc. Seems to me that would be your best bet.

I knw White Tailed Deer lose their antlers after mating season, and are lost by the Spring and then begin to grow new antlers. I assue it would be the same for Moose antlers.

I have also heard you can train labrador retrievers to find sheds. In fact I know a woman who has hunting dogs in NH that im sure could be taught how to find antlers in the woods. She owns Canterbury Kennels in Canterbury NH and raises top quality Labrador Retrievers for hunting dogs.
