There is a $30.00 non- refundable fee per person for the class and because of the limited seating pre- registration is required, Call (603) 267- 7256 or (888) 254- 2125 to pre- register.

Do I Need to Have a NH Boaters License?

Anyone who wishes to operate a motorized vessel in excess of 25 horsepower on New Hampshire waters needs to have a valid boaters license.

Testing-Out of the NH Boating Education Test

The "Test- Out" option is available by calling 1-888-254-2125 or 603-267-7256. You must call to make an appointment to take the test. You must have a photo ID, like a driver's license or a school ID card. You do not need a driver's license to obtain a boaters license certificate. The test-out test must be taken in Marine Patrol's Belmont NH office. This test-out option test is harder than the classroom test. The test is 75 questions and you must get at least 80% correct to pass. If you pass, the license is only good in New Hampshire waters. If you fail, you can retake the test anytime after 24 hours from the failed test. The non-refundable cost is $10.00 for the test and $10.00 for the permanent card if you pass the test.

How to Get a Temporary 15 Day Boaters Permit

If you would like to get a temporary permit (good for 15 days). You can do so quickly by taking a quick computer based test. These types of tests are usually available at places that rent boats. This way a boat renter can take the test and rent a boat right away for a small fee. One place to get a temporary boaters permit is Lake Side Boat Rentals in Alton Bay, NH. They can be reached at 603-875-5005 for questions, appointments and fees associated with the temporary boaters permit.
