Baby Born at the Magic Mile
And you thought that New Hampshire Motor Speedway was just for fast cars. Well think again because it seems that The Magic Mile is also known for speedy baby deliveries. On Friday, September 14th, 2012, a baby was born in the parking lot of the Speedway at 3:00 P.M. Track officials say that this is the first baby born at the track in its history.
The parents-to-be were on their way to Concord Hospital from the home located in Belmont. This was the couples’ 4th child and apparently she didn’t want to wait to get to the hospital to make her way into this world so the couple had to make a pit stop at the Speedway. One of the family members went to the office to get help and they were in luck because they got some experienced help.
Tom Blanchette is the Director of Operations for the Speedway and has training in EMT. He rushes to where the couple is and discovers that mom had just delivered the baby with the help of her husband. There was an ambulance crew at the track already so she and the baby were transported to Concord Hospital along with the rest of the family.
Baby Katie is the first baby ever born at the Speedway. Because there was an upcoming race at the track, the right people just happened to be there at the right time. The speedway’s general manager, Jerry Gappens gave the family two tickets to NHMS races for the rest of their lives.
